Do you want to pursue research? The Summer Research Experience will introduce current undergraduate students to research through a summer project with researchers from the Melbourne School of Engineering.

The Melbourne School of Engineering and National ICT Australia (NICTA) will sponsor successful applicants for 8-10 weeks with a studentship of $400 per week.

This is your chance to experience research at a world class institute, currently ranked 28th in the world for technology (Times Higher Education, 2008), and to be part of a community of over 300 graduate research students and almost 200 research staff working across innovative themes such as:

The Summer Research Experience is open to current undergraduate engineering students (studying at an Australian or New Zealand University) who will have completed 2 years full-time study at the end of 2009, and will be studying full-time in 2010.

How to Apply

Identify projects or create your own. To view projects, visit the projects page. If you would like to nominate your own project, please browse the list of current research staff to see their current research projects: www.merit.unimelb.edu.au/staff/.

Applications open on Monday 27th July, and close at midnight (AEST) Friday 28th August.

After identifying suitable projects or identifying your own, you will need to:

  1. Log in to the site: if you are a current University of Melbourne student you can log in using your email username and password; if you are from another University, you will need to register first - register on the Register New Account page.
  2. After logging in, apply on the apply page. Please note you are able to nominate up to 10 projects you would like to be considered for.
  3. You will be able to log in to the site to update your application including nominated projects until the closing date.
